About us
The IEA, which was founded in October 1989, is an independent, non-governmental institution dedicated to the establishment and strengthening of a market economy and democratic, free, and open society. It considers improvement in the economic, legal, social, and political institutions as necessary conditions for sustained economic growth and human development.
The IEA supports education, research, advocacy, and publishes studies on important economic, socio-political, and legal issues to enhance understanding of public policies that promotes socio-economic development in Ghana and Africa. The IEA boasts a beautiful and exotic environment in the heart of Accra and is home to some of the best researchers and scholars in economics, law, political science, and governance, in the country. It is also home to the Rt. Hon. Prof. Mike Oquaye Centre for Constitutional Studies, under the directorship of the former speaker of parliament, Rt. Hon. Prof. Mike Oquaye. Other prominent members at the centre are the former Chief Justice of Ghana, Justice Sophia Akuffo and Dr. John Kwakye, a prominent Ghanaian economist who had an illustrious career at the Bank of Ghana and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) before joining the IEA as the Director of Research
Study Abroad Programme
This program is for senior undergraduates who have completed at least two years of a full-time university degree program in political science, economics, history, law, international relations, public administration, or related social science subjects.
Executive Programme
The Institute of Economic Affairs is organising an “Executive Certificate Programme in Economic Development Policy” purposely for filling the gap in knowledge and understanding in the area. The programme is targeted to business executives, policy makers, policy implementers, senior public officers, top civil servants, M&E practitioners, consultants and analysts, notwithstanding their background in economics, to equip them with the tools to be able to comprehend basic economic development policy and thereby follow and understand issues that they may encounter on a daily basis.
